WORCESTER, MA-The city council has created an economic development zone on a 67,000-sf parcel of city-owned land. The site is located within the South Worcester Industrial Park, a 25-acre property that the city is attempting to revitalize.

Philip J. Niddrie, the city’s development officer, tells GlobeSt.com that the designation was created to allow the city to be able to negotiate with potential developers during the request for proposal process. Without this designation, state law prevents the city from being able to negotiate with developers in that process. “This way we can put out a request for developers and then we can negotiate with them as opposed to being locked into the RFP requirements,” notes Niddrie.
