The renovations involved work on the building's exterior, including a new façade, entrance and window. The interior improvements included renovations to the lobby, dining rooms and common areas. The project, which also included improvements to the 125-units, began two years ago. Bethel secured U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development insurance for a Westchester County Industrial Development Agency bond.
Schopfer Architects of Syracuse, N.Y., designed the new façade and reconfigured the interior spaces.
Bethel held a grand opening recently for its "new" Springvale Inn that attracted a host of state and local dignitaries.
John Ritchie, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Bethel, says of the renovation's completion at the Springvale property, "We are very excited about the 'new' Springvale Inn because we know how important it is for our residents to have a beautiful and comfortable place they can call home. We're confident that these changes will significantly improve their quality of life."
Some of the other amenities at the property include: a library with computer stations, game, exercise and activity rooms, an indoor heated swimming pool, a concierge, post office, delicatessen, beauty parlor, barbershop, Laundromat as well as two gerontologists and a dentist's office.
Despite the upgrades, Springvale officials say that the rental charges did not increase to existing residents and remain moderately priced. "Since the Springvale Inn is not-for-profit, we are able to offer rates lower than many comparable facilities," says Clare P. Shanley, administrator of the Springvale Inn. "In addition, unlike many other residences, we do not require an up-front investment or down payment."
Units at the inn range from studio to one-bedroom to one-bedroom/garden units that include patios or balconies. Monthly rental charges range from $2,234 to $3,721, with a second person costing an additional $780 per month. The rental costs include a host of services including three meals daily, weekly housekeeping, linen service, regular health and wellness assessment, scheduled transportation, utilities and 24-hour staffing.
