The City Council Wednesday voted 4-1 to approve ballot language for an alternative version of the El Corazon Dedicated Parkland Initiative. The measure will appear on the Nov. 5 ballot.Under the measure, revenue from El Corazon development would go to parks on the property and parks throughout the city rather than be funneled into the city's general fund.
Residents who pushed for the measure approved Wednesday say the city's own version is an attempt to confuse residents about a proposal by San Diego developer Douglas Manchester, who plans to build a resort hotel and private championship golf course on the 544 city-owned acres at Oceanside Boulevard and El Camino Real.More than 17,000 residents signed the petition in an effort to prevent the council from providing Manchester with El Corazon land.
