A's Lease Extension Approved in Concept

OAKLAND, CA-The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority has approved a lease extension that will allow Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics to play at the Networks Associates Coliseum for at least five more years.

OAKLAND, CA-The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority, which oversees the coliseum and arena, today approved in concept a proposal to extend the lease that allows the Oakland A’s to play at the Networks Associates Coliseum for at least five more years.

However, the tentative approval is contingent upon further negotiations and clarifications after representatives of the City of Oakland on the board said they did not think the current proposal is adequate.

Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty brokered the lease extension proposal. It seeks to extend the lease through the end of the 2007 baseball season, a time period chosen because it is the amount of time needed to build a facility made for only baseball.
