Plans for the new center include a new 53,000-sf City Hall office complex, complete with a City Council chamber. The new center would replace 47,000-sf of office space in the temporary buildings, rented offices and the recently remodeled Civic Center at 200 Old Bernal Ave.

The city wants to add a 400-car parking lot to provide much-needed parking for the civic center and for downtown businesses. The civic center complex had originally planned to include an art center or performing arts center but that idea has been tossed. Still, it may include a retail addition.

All design and written proposals are in preliminary stages and the revised plans must go before the City Council for public consideration before the project breaks ground.
