Town Considers Golf Course for 100-Acre Site

WALPOLE, MA-The town considers redeveloping a 100-acre parcel into a golf course. The parcel is located right off Main Street and is largely privately-owned by multiple owners, but the town is looking to protect the site because of its environmental designation.

WALPOLE, MA-The town is considering the possibility of redeveloping a 100-acre parcel located right off Main Street into a golf course. The Brownfields Committee, chaired by the town’s health agent, has been formed and, with the help of a $42,500 grant from the state attorney general’s office, a feasibility study for the proposal is currently underway.

“We felt this would be a good way to protect this site,” Gail Nixon, deputy health agent for Walpole tells GlobeSt.com. Nixon points out that part of this parcel is designated by the state Environmental Protection Agency as the site of a sole-source aquifer. Most of the land is currently being used–there is a junk yard and metal parts recycling facility there–but those are “not the best uses for the site because of the EPA designation,” notes Nixon.
