Morley and Shearer Get the Go-Ahead in Bath

LONDON-The seven-year planning battle over the redevelopment of the Southgate shopping centre in Bath, Somerset, has finally come to a close. Bath & North East Somerset Council has given Morley Fund Management and Shearer Property Holdings planning permission.

LONDON-After a seven-year planning battle, Morley Fund Management and Shearer Property Holdings have finally won planning permission from Bath & North East Somerset Council to redevelop the Southgate Centre and surrounding area in the centre of Bath.

The £150 million redevelopment will form a new southern gateway to bath city centre on the site of the existing Southgate Centre with links into the bus and rail stations. The scheme will be anchored by a department store and a food store, with a range of shops supported by a new public transport interchange, residential and leisure space, arranged around a series of new streets and spaces. The developers’ target is to start work on site in early 2004 implying completion in Spring 2008.
