The proposed Wal-Mart Supercenters will carry general merchandise, as well as a full range of grocery products that will include bakery goods, deli foods, frozen foods, meat and dairy products and fresh produce. The stores will employ between 200 and 600 associates each, with 70% of the positions requiring full-time workers. The store locations have yet to be announced.
Wal-Mart currently operates 125 stores, 29 Sam's Clubs and three distribution centers in California, employing 50,000 people here. Nationwide, the company operates more than 2,740 discount stores, Supercenters and Neighborhood markets and 500 Sam's Clubs. Internationally, it operates more than 1,170 units. The company, which employs 1.3 million associates worldwide, reports annual sales of $218 billion.
