$110M Convention Center Expansion Ready to Go

AUSTIN-A weekend of festivities kick off the first showing of the $110-million convention center expansion, two years in the making. Bonnie Raitt and a taping of Austin City Limits headline the unveiling.

AUSTIN-The City of Austin’s expanded convention center opens this weekend, expanding the city’s ability to attract larger, more lucrative conventions. The city marks the weekend opening with a series of events including a taping of Austin City Limits with Bonnie Raitt.

The $110-million project, under way for two years, doubles the convention center’s exhibition pace from 411,000 sf to 881,400 sf. Its footprint covers six city blocks. The expansion adds two exhibition halls totaling 120,125 sf, an upper level ballroom of 43,300 sf and 18 additional meeting rooms totaling 27,918 sf. The expansion increases exhibit space to 246,097 contiguous sf in five exhibit halls, two ballrooms and 52 meeting and show rooms with 54,730 sf.
