About 250 people, a figure that will double in coming months, are working on the site that will see opening-day baseball by spring of 2004.
San Diego Ballpark Builders has poured the concrete for the main concourse deck. Concrete has also been poured for the beams that provide the foundation for seating. In total, nearly 50% of the concrete has been poured.
Concrete pours are about 40 percent complete, with 24,574 cubic yards of concrete poured to date and 37,026 cubic yards remaining.
Pours for the ground-level service slab of the ballpark are about 50% complete. And concrete placement has been completed for the mezzanine level, which represents the second floor of the future home of the Padres' front office.
Crews began erecting steel on the third base side April 29. The process is expected to continue from the third base to the first base side, finishing in June 2003.
