A 30-foot steel beam weighing 1.2 tons was signed by guests and hoisted to roof level. Upon completion, the new Marvin Braude San Fernando Valley Constituent Service Center will include a two-story office building that transitions into a four-story office building and two-levels of underground parking.
Located in Van Nuys, at 6262 Van Nuys Blvd., the facility lies within the 11th Council District for the City of Los Angeles and will serve the Greater San Fernando Valley. The new Mediterranean-style buildings will house field representatives for several City departments, including the Mayor, City Councilperson, City Attorney, City Clerk, Planning, Transportation, Building and Safety, and the Bureau of Engineering.
In addition to office space, the new center will offer 9,500 sf of ground-floor retail stores, approximately 200 underground parking spaces, and about 100 parking spaces on the surface parking lot.
The Departments are scheduled to move in to the new building in Dec. 2002, according to Snyder Langston Project Manager Jim Magnuson. After that transition is complete, a public plaza will be constructed to serve as a patio area for the new building, as well as a link to the existing Civic Center Buildings.
