ST. PAUL, MN-As part of the Minnesota Twins ballpark bill, which has passed the Minnesota Legislature, the state has created a football stadium account for proposed a joint facility for Minnesota Vikings and University of Minnesota teams. The team argues that the Metrodome in Downtown Minneapolis is no longer adequate for its needs, andthe University of Minnesota also would like a new stadium.

The Vikings have proposed building a $440-million stadium, and the National Football League and the team would contribute about $150 million to that effort.

The new account is funded with $500,000 from reserves at Metropolitan Sports Facility Commission. Regents at the University of Minnesota are asked to make an agreement with the Minnesota Vikings on stadium operation and management and report back toLegislature by Dec. 1.
