The Center City Development Corp. held the first of a series of workshops Tuesday on its Downtown Community Plan, which sets standards for housing, transportation, open space and development.

About 75 people participated in the workshop held at Woodbury University on Eighth Avenue. Ideas ranged from the need to make streets more people-friendly to creating open-space plazas for people to gather.

Participants split into seven discussion groups, discussing such issues as the expansion of Lindbergh Field and the new Padres ballpark. Some said any future expansion of public transportation needs to be less expensive and more accessible to the disabled.
