This program aims to have electric vehicles as the dominant mode of transportation at Playa Vista. Electric cars will be used for passenger and utility purposes, as well as zero-emission trams to canvass the Playa Vista property and a fleet of electric city cars based on the MCC smart City-Coupe to be available on a per-trip basis for regional use by residents and business tenants.
Not everyone is supporting Playa Vista's environmental proposal. A community activist organization called Save Ballona claim that "with 30,000 new residents and 5 million feet of commercial space, Playa Vista will create enough new traffic to lower the quality of life for everyone who lives or works or travels near it."
Playa Vista is located on 1,086 acres between Marina del Rey, Westchester and Playa del Rey. The State of Calif. is putting out $400 million in tax exempt bonds to help Playa Vista finance its infrastructure improvements, with about $30 million for affordable housing. The developer is paying it back, but at low interest rate.
