1,000-Acre Playa Vista Project Orders Electric Cars

PLAYA VISTA, CA-The 1,086-acre residential-and-retail development, for which government is putting out $400 million in tax exempt bonds, has contracted with Global Electric Motorcars, a subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler, and eMotion Mobility for development of zero-emission vehicles for its development.

PLAYA VISTA, CA-Playa Vista has selected DaimlerChrysler, its Global Electric Motorcars subsidiary and eMotion Mobility to develop a zero-emission vehicle mobility system for its 1,000-acre development. Sources close to the project estimate the value of this contract to be within $20 and $30 million.

This program aims to have electric vehicles as the dominant mode of transportation at Playa Vista. Electric cars will be used for passenger and utility purposes, as well as zero-emission trams to canvass the Playa Vista property and a fleet of electric city cars based on the MCC smart City-Coupe to be available on a per-trip basis for regional use by residents and business tenants.
