The apartment project is in the Heatherwilde and Windermere neighborhoods of Pflugerville, a suburb northeast of Austin. It will offer on-site support services for residents and non-residents. David Saling, Austin project manager for Bellevue, WA-based Campbell-Hogue, said the complex is intended to be a focal point for its residents and other senior citizens in the Pflugerville area. Meals on Wheels and the Family Eldercare organization have reserved offices in the complex. Family Eldercare serves older adults and disabled people in Travis County and surrounding areas.
The complex has one- and two-bedroom apartments in single-story, cottage-like buildings with native stone and stucco exteriors. To be eligible to live there, residents must be 62 years old and over with household incomes within 60% of the area's median income. Monthly rents start in the low $300s for a one-bedroom unit.
Financing was structured through the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs and Utah-based Key Global Capital and KeyBank.
The design includes a senior center with a meeting room and kitchen for social and recreational activities. A clubhouse has exercise areas, game room and hair-styling salon.
Heatherwilde is Campbell-Hogue's second affordable multifamily housing project in Austin. Earlier this year, it opened Fort Branch at Truman's Landing, a 250-unit complex in East Austin. The company is now planning the Villas on Sixth Street, a 160-unit complex a few blocks from Austin's CBD. That project will include 2,500 sf of commercial space and a 3,000-sf youth center. Campbell-Hogue plans to work with neighborhood and community groups to develop the apartments.
