The council will reconsider the 20-year plan in two weeks after receiving more community feedback of the hotel's plans for public beach access. City officials assured representatives for hotel owner Destination Development, who expressed dismay at the delay, that the plan is on the threshold of council approval, including the resort's controversial $700,000 beach access plan.

The plan is the first development agreement between a private party and city government in Coronado history.

Destination Development bought the hotel in 1997 and is spending $55 million on a renovation, including earthquake reinforcement and new public walkways. Future plans include construction of beachfront cottages, a spa and new convention facilities.
