Another Park and Ride Project in the Works

SEATTLE-In an effort to boost transit use and cut down on traffic congestion in the region, King County officials once again are mulling the development of apartment complexes that share space with park-and-ride lots. Up next for discussion is the Brickyard Park and Ride lot in Juanita.

SEATTLE-After a successful try at marrying transit needs to affordable housing, King County is at it again.

The latest transit-oriented community proposal is for the Brickyard Park and Ride lot in Juanita. The goal of these projects, in which apartment complexes share space with park and ride lots, is to boost transit use and cut down on traffic congestion in the region. The public is encouraged to provide input at an open house gathering on Thursday.

The first such project, the Village at Overlake Station, marked the nation’s first housing development above a bus station. The popular park and ride lot was closed for two years while a $40 million, 308-unit housing complex was built above it in December 2001.
