The 585-acre Bressi Ranch development was approved by the Carlsbad Planning Commission last week and will be considered by the city council at the end of June or early July.

The development, master planned by Lennar Communities, is proposed for the southeast corner of Palomar Airport Road and El Camino Real.

The homes are expected to range from 2,100 sf to more than 4,000 sf with about 25 lots in the project expected to be set aside for custom homes. City officials discouraged an earlier version of the plan that included higher-density townhomes and condos, favoring single-family dwellings and"affordable" apartments. The multifamily units would be built around the commercial center area to provide easy walking access.
