WASHINGTON, DC-The 230,000-sf building that was Columbia Hospital for Women until its closing a month ago due to financial strains, will be sold to the highest bidder. Insignia/ESG has been tapped to dispose of the property, which has a proposed 2003 assessment value of nearly $41 million. The first packages on the structure just went out on Friday, June 7.

Located at 2425 L Street in the District's Foggy Bottom submarket, the building sits in a highly desirable area that is zoned for multi-family housing. “We're seeking bids and expect to have a lot of offers come in,” Insignia/ESG senior managing director David Gilson tells GlobeSt.com. “It's a high-profile property and there will be a lot of interest among buyers, so we decided not to set a price.”

The structure was built in stages, with the oldest part having been constructed in 1915, followed by three additions. The last upgrade to the property was in the mid-1980s.
