According to town planner Stephen Costello, Extended Stay will lease a three-acre site from Crosstown Associates in a location that he calls "the gateway to the town. I'm not surprised they want to build a hotel there."

Costello tells GlobeSt.com that because of the proposed hotel's prominent site the town has asked Extended Stay to upgrade the building's facade to complete brickface and change the signage. "Architecturally, the plan could use some improvements," he says, "but they've been willing to do what we've asked them."

Costello notes that the town recently approved a 138-room Marriott Residence Inn on Route 1 South 18 months ago. The town is also home to a Sheraton, a Marriott Courtyard and a Ramada Inn. "Whether we're over-served with hotel rooms is up to the planning board," says Costello. "We are just trying to get the best product before them." The plan is due to go before the town's planning board July 8.

Extended StayAmerica hotels cater to business travelers who need to stay in a location for an average of four to five weeks. There are currently four Extended StayAmerica hotels in the Greater Boston area.
