Under the proposals the existing Broadmarsh centre will be doubled in size to 1.3 million sf at a cost of £400 million ($600 million) by extendinbgit onto an adjoining site bounded by Lister Gate and Bridlesmith Gate to the north, Canal Street to the south, New Popham Street to the east and Maid Marian Way to the west.
The new Broadmarsh will feature three covered levels of shops with galleried cafes and restaurants incorporating outward-looking balconies with views across the city. The plans incorporate a new landmark building on the corner of Canal Street and Maid Marian Way, two new department stores, a fresh food hall, a supermarket, a 1,200-seat food court with and a new Nottingham Caves tourist attraction.
A new public open space surrounded by bars, restaurants and cafes with views across to Nottingham Castle will provide a new meeting place, with opportunities for street artists, live bands and festivals and in addition an additional 1,000 car parking spaces will be provided, bringing the scheme's total to 4,000 spaces.
