New AFV Education Center Is First in Nation

SAN DIEGO-The nation's first Regional Transportation Center, a 60,000-sf facility on El Cajon Boulevard and Interstate 15, is now under construction.

SAN DIEGO-The 60,000-sf Regional Transportation Center, which is situated on 1.4 acres, is now under construction on El Cajon Boulevard at Interstate 15.

The project involves a $17.9-million educational facility that will be used to inform the public about alternative-fuel vehicles. Serving as the gateway project for the City Heights Redevelopment Area, the new RTC Center will feature an alternative-fuel vehicle showroom and serve as an alternative fuel demonstration, fueling and operations center, according to Steve Bimson, executive director of the San Diego Environmental Foundation.

Cross Architects designed the structure, which is being built by Lusardi Construction. Center officials say it is the first facility of this kind in the nation.
