"The Norfolk Airport Authority's mission has been to ensure that the necessary infrastructure and capabilities are in place to meet the growing air-transportation needs of Hampton Roads," says chairman of the Norfolk Airport Authority Board of Commissioners Richard D. Roberts. He and other local and state officials attended the dedication ceremony earlier this week.

"I believe the traveling public will be more than pleased with their new airport, particularly the ease and convenience it will offer them." The project began nearly three years ago in July 1999 and is part of the $133-million Norfolk International's Arrival 2002 improvement program. Currently the 28-year old main terminal handles seven major carriers and five regional carriers. It originally accommodated only four airlines.
