A lecture hall, eight computer labs, two science labs, 22 classrooms and 10 conference rooms will comprise the state-of-the-art development. The school will offer day, evening and weekend classes, as well as specified contract training for employees of local businesses. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, AACC President Martha A. Smith called the development "a desperately needed capital construction project." AACC will lease a six-acre parcel for the building at Arundel Mills from owner and operator The Mills Corporation.

The foundation is financing the project with help from Anne Arundel County, which will make a loan to the foundation from proceeds of tax-exempt industrial revenue bonds issued by the county in May. With construction already underway, school officials expect the facility to be finished in August 2003, in time for fall classes. Gaithersburg, MD's Hess Construction Company is the project contractor and the Calverton, MD office of Grimm and Parker Architects designed the building.
