Supermarket owner Ramiro Chavez bought the Franklin Boulevard site, which was formerly the home of Food City, two years ago for $800,000. After renovating the site, he plans to launch the 26,000-sf store in November, to the delight of the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency.

The store is part of a plan to improve the street. Other efforts include a recent $3 million federal grant that is upgrading the street and renovation s of 13 businesses on the street.

SHRA plans to award $75,000 in special rebates to La Hacienda as a reimbursement for the merchant's work in improving its exterior appearance. The market is viewed as a catalyst site because the SHRA feels its size and appeal will be beneficial in attracting new businesses to the area.
