Latino Supermarket May Upgrade Ugly Street

SACRAMENTO-A Latino supermarket chain will soon be a major draw to one of Sacramento's least attractive streets, giving hope to the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency for new businesses.

SACRAMENTO-La Haciendo Mercado, a Bay Area grocery chain specializing in Hispanic foods, will open its third and biggest store on Franklin Boulevard in Sacramento in November, as part of a long-term plan to improve one of Sacramento’s least attractive streets.

Supermarket owner Ramiro Chavez bought the Franklin Boulevard site, which was formerly the home of Food City, two years ago for $800,000. After renovating the site, he plans to launch the 26,000-sf store in November, to the delight of the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency.
