Consolidation is expected to bring savings on rents in various current Downtown locations.
County forensic labs will occupy two floors of the new building. Among the other departments to be consolidated there are services for aging, behavioral, health, drug and alcohol, mental health and retardation, community relations and administration.
The Allegheny County Industrial Development Authority, which owns the annex, will also own the new building. Demolition begins next May, and occupancy of the new offices is scheduled for late 2005.
An earlier plan to demolish the annex was set aside when county officials began to study the potential savings of locating services under one roof.
