Approximately 10 million travellers pass through the border zone each year and Freeport expects the mall to attract 4 million visitors per annum. It says there has already bee "significant interest" from premium brand owners keen to benefit from the zone's duty free status.
Freeport Chief Executive Sean Collidge said: "This move into the Austrian/Czech market further strengthens the Freeport brand in mainland Europe." Freeport Kungsbacka opened in Gothenburg, Sweden in November 2001 and plans are being drawn up for a further scheme near Lisbon, Portugal.
Letting agents on Excalibue are Healey Baker in the Czech Republic, GVA in Berlin, and Interpol in Vienna.
