NEW YORK CITY-The State Office of General Services is looking to lease between 160,000 and 240,000 sf of office space in Lower Manhattan. The agency has also signed a lease for 125,000 sf in the new $80-million Harlem Center.

Governor George Pataki revealed both moves yesterday, stating that when the Downtown space is identified it will house up to 880 state employees. The Harlem space will be occupied by 271 employees from two state agencies beginning in 2004.

Late last month, the State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance moved 286 employees back into their Downtown offices at 22 Cortlandt St. The workers had been displaced as a result of the Sept. 11 attacks when the state lost or was forced to vacate 1.8 million sf of state agency office space.
