Ikea has proposed building a 340,000-sf store on a 27-acre site on the corner of Hacienda Drive and Interstate 580. The Dublin City Council has ordered a land use study to be conducted of a 27.4-acre site near Hacienda Crossings to asses the feasibility of building a third IKEA store in the Bay Area. If approved, the land would have to be rezoned, as it is currently set for office space.
Ikea plans to buy the property but the county has declined to say how much it will be sold for. IKEA currently has stores in Emeryville and has recently gotten approval to build one in East Palo Alto. East Palo Alto residents argued that the development would bring unwanted traffic congestion and cause the demise of their small town but IKEA recently got approval and will open next year.
