$11M Animal Campus Breaks Ground

SAN DIEGO-The center, rising on 2.5 acres at 5500 Gaines St., is part of a joint venture between the San Diego Humane Society and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

SAN DIEGO-Construction has started on a new 44,500-sf, $11 million animal care center in Mission Valley.

The shelter is a joint venture between the San Diego Humane Society and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals located on 2.5 acres at 5500 Gaines St. The center will anchor the San Diego Campus for Animal Care, with assistance from the county Department of Animal Services.

The second phase of the project comes more than two years after the county’s new Kroc-Copley Animal Shelter, which was completed and opened two months ago. The just-started animal care facility is slated for completion next spring.
