$68M Mixed-Use Metro Development in the Works

WASHINGTON, DC-Plans for a $68-million mixed-use development at the Rhode Island Avenue Metro station have been put in motion as developers sign a lease agreement with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority for a 5.9-acre parcel, currently the site of a WMATA parking lot and bus facilities. The development team–a joint venture between Mid-City Urban LLC, A&R Development Corp. and Graimark/Walker–expects to complete the residential, retail and parking complex by 2004.

Located in the city’s Brentwood neighborhood, the Rhode Island project will ultimately include 270 apartments, 70,000 sf of retail space, and a seven-story parking garage capable of accommodating the 340 spaces it will replace, as well as additional spaces for the complex’s visitors and residents. The residential units will sit atop ground-level retail space in two four-story buildings. Among the retailers that have expressed interest in opening up at the development are Boston Market, Applebee’s and Dress Barn.
