$26M Lab Opens at School; River Project Planned

PHILADELPHIA-A $26-million, eight-story addition to science labs at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon, designed by locally based Burt Hill Kosar Rittelmann, opens this fall. Meanwhile, financing is secured for the architect's design for an 18-acre mixed-use, urban development along the Philadelphia riverfront.

PHILADELPHIA-An eight-story addition to the west wing of Doherty Hall at Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Mellon University opens this fall. Designed by the Pittsburgh office of locally based architectural firm, Burt Hill Kosar Rittleman Associates, the $26-million addition to the department of chemistry includes chemistry labs, a computer cluster, staff offices, chemical storage space and a 125-seat lecture hall.

Pittsburgh-based Mellon Foundation, Merck Inc., PPG Industries, and an anonymous foundation provided funding.

Meanwhile, across the state, Burt Hill is selected by an unnamed developer to provide architecture, engineering and site design for an 18-acre mixed-use development south of Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia on the Delaware River. The multi-phase project, according to a statement by Burt Hill, will begin with a 30-story tower of approximately 350 to 400 apartments.
