COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA-Tokyo’s Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company. has decided to build a $14 million nylon production plant capable of generating 10,000 tons of its product in the Richmond area’s Ruffin Mill Industrial Park. The manufacturing center will take on the domestic distribution of the company’s MX Nylon resin film, which is currently handled from Mitsubishi’s Niigata, Japan factory. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year and will be completed by April 2004.
Ruffin Mill offers 280 acres of space in Chesterfield County, and is home to a Fiorucci Foods plant and a Haverty’s Fine Furniture distribution center. The size of Mitsubishi’s facility has not been decided yet. “This month we will have presentations from candidates for general contractor,” Suzuki tells GlobeSt.com. “After the general contractor is selected, we will design the plant. The design should be done in September or October.”
