Cost of the GE project on the 10-acre site at the airport was not disclosed, but knowledgeable sources estimate that GE, a leading manufacturer of jet engines for civilian and military aircraft, will spend about $15M to build the complex.

GE says the flight test operation will employ more than 50 full-time workers and will host visiting engineers, technicians and airline representatives from around the world. The site is the former George Air Force Base.

Construction on the facility is expected to be finished in about a year.
