The Santana Row development is a new shopping and housing development that is under construction within one block of the Valley Fair shopping mall. It was scheduled for completion later this year.
A spokeswoman for Federal Realty Investment Trust says that the building, on 6 acres, held about one half of the project's housing and 20% of the retail. No tenants had occupied the project, which sits on 42 acres.
Trust spokesman Tom Miles says the building was scheduled to open in the middle of September and was to have 36 retail shops, including a Chili's restaurant, a Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Parlor and an Ann Taylor clothing boutique, as well as 246 rental-housing units.
