The centre covers 25,300 square metres and tenants include national retailers Tesco, WH Smith, Boots and Argos. It also has a number of smaller units let to local retailers. Net rental income is £3.2 million a year.

The deal brings to five Warner's shopping centre holdings in the north west of England.

Richard Moore, property director at Warner Estate Holdings, said: "We are now firmly established as a major retail property investor in the region." He added: "We are confident we can improve the lay-out of the centre to the benefit of both tenants and shoppers."

The acquisition was made via a joint venture company made up of London-based Warner Estate Holdings and the Bank of Scotland.
