Ohio Conservation Projects Get $3M in Grants

PHILADELPHIA-The Clean Ohio Fund dispenses grants for the purchase of approximately 500 acres of wetlands and wildlife habitats in seven locations in central Ohio. Prices range from $1,000 per acre in Prairie Township to nearly $120,000 an acre in New Albany.

PHILADELPHIA-Seven Ohio conservation projects have received grants totaling $2.9million from Clean Ohio Fund, a fund approved by voters two years ago. The smallest of the grants, $200,000 to the Nature Conservancy, buys approximately 200 acres in the Hellbranch Run stream corridor in Prairie Township.

Westerville, OH receives two grants totaling $877,909. About half of the total, $431,820, will buy 12 acres of the Mariner’s Cove wetland in order to extend a boardwalk and link it to a proposed bike trail. Another $446,089 will buy 41 acres along Big Walnut Creek.
