A 17-year veteran of the industry, Otis has been with Robert Evans Co. for the past year, drumming up build-to-suit tenants. In his new position at TCC, Otis is responsible for the generation and implementation of all commercial development opportunities in and around Portland.

Otis tells GlobeSt.com that he decided to return after taking a call from longtime friend John Stirek, the COO of Trammell Crow's Global Services Group, who is overseeing the Portland office while he seeks a replacement for Nelson. "John called me and we discussed a situation where client-wise and workload-wise they needed someone who had prior knowledge of the operation, and I have it because I was working on many of these deals when I left," Otis tells GlobeSt.com. "Things were amicable when I left and John and I go way back--to grade school--so we have a good trusting relationship and I'm happy to come back with new energy and take it on."

Otis says Trammell Crow is under construction for two speculative industrial developments on behalf of two different clients. They are Rivergate I, a 500,000-sf development, and Wilsonville Distribution Center, a 280,000-sf project, "and some others I can't talk about right now."

TCC's Portland office manages 5.6 million square feet of investment property for clients such as Kennedy Associates Real Estate Counsel, Riggs & Company, AMB Property Corp., Lend Lease, Watumull Properties Corp., the Peterkort family and SSR.

Stirek grew up in Lake Oswego and built a house there a few blocks from his parents shortly before he was promoted to COO 18 months ago. Prior to his promotion, Stirek was national director of Trammell Crow's development and investment services division. He did the job from the Portland office, where he arrived from Seattle in 1991, then as the office's new managing director.

Stirek says that during the transition period in Portland he'll be back and forth between here and Dallas, spending the end and beginning of the week in Portland and the mid-week in Dallas dealing with the rest of the country. A replacement for Nelson is expected before the end of October.

Sackett and Nelson are now operating the new development company out of an office condo Nelson owns in the Streetcar Lofts Building in Portland's burgeoning Pearl District. Trammell Crow also keeps an office in the building. The firm's new name has not yet been announced.
