Hampton and Armada/Hoffler already have a working relationship, as the developer has built ten structures on the university's campus, including a library, museum, student center, convocation center and a dormitory. And while the deal marks Hampton's first commercial real estate development investment, the University boasts a variety of properties in its portfolio, including the neighboring Hampton Harbor Apartments.

The hotel is part of Phase II of Armada/Hoffler's 17-block downtown development endeavor. Other facets of this second construction segment will include a 334-unit apartment building, retail space, and two parking facilities. Phase I, currently in progress, consists of a 23-story office building, a 5-story office structure, and retail space.
