$155M Hyatt Regency Resort Opens--at Last

CAMBRIDGE, MA-Following nearly an entire year of postponed openings, the new $155-million Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina has made its debut. A veritable army of about 400 guests, from Maryland’s Gov. Parris N. Glendening to the project’s developers and local citizens, came out for the unveiling of the 400-room luxury hotel destination. Once priced at $74 million, the price tag on the Dorchester County development was pushed up, and the opening date was moved back, having been rescheduled on three occasions between December 1, 2001 and the actual event last week.

Located at 2800 Ocean Gateway on a 261-acre plot along the Choptank River, the resort property’s amenities account for high development cost. In addition to the multitude of guestrooms, the resort features 42,000 sf of meeting and event space, an 18,000-sf spa, a 150-slip marina, an 18-acre nature reserve, and an 18-hole champion golf course. There are also indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a children’s recreation center, a fitness center and four tennis courts.
