Developer's Retail Plans Stir Up Rural Windermere

ORLANDO-Kevin H. Azzouz, a 42-year-old retired software industry millionaire turned developer, has purchased the estimated 25,000-sf Union Church building for $1.4 million ($56 per sf) and other Downtown properties, a move residents in this suburban town of 2,300 permanent residents see as a monopoly-game maneuver to destroy the pastoral lifestyle in the 120-year-old community.

ORLANDO-Kevin H. Azzouz, a 42-year-old retired software industry millionaire who lives with his family in a $5 million, 20,000-sf mansion outside rural Windermere, FL, six miles north of Walt Disney World, is getting unwanted attention from residents and the media after buying the town’s only church building and then joking he would like to buy up all of the commercial properties in the three-block Downtown area.

Azzouz didn’t respond to a fax request by GlobeSt.com to share his views on his acquisitions and development plans.

Azzouz has told the town council he wants to build a new urbanism type of small town center, different from Celebration, FL and Winter Park Village in Winter Park, FL, but also different from the pastoral lifestyle residents in the town outside Orlando have enjoyed for 120 years. Windermere has 2,300 permanent residents.
