The Travis County Bar Association took 10,750 sf from the Akin Gump Straus Hauer & Feld LP law firm at Frost Bank Plaza, 815 N. Congress Ave. Mike Kennedy and Kathy Carr, both of Commercial Texas in Austin, acted on behalf of the bar association. Elisabeth Juen Waltz of Montford Consulting Group represented Akin Gump.
The bar association moves from the 312,395-sf Chase Bank Building at 700 Lavaca. Akin Gump moved from Frost Bank Plaza to 87,000 sf in 300 West Sixth, the 445,550-sf CarrAmerica Realty Corp. building that opened late last year. The Chase building itself lost a big tenant earlier this year when the Clark Thomas & Winters LP law firm moved into 85,000 sf at 300 West Sixth.
Law firms have been the biggest players in shuffling the tenant mix in downtown buildings in recent month. The Vinson & Elkins firm moved from One American Center to the Terrace VII in the southwest submarket. Winstead Secrest & Minick has reserved 37,000 sf at Congress at Fourth, the 510,000-sf Cousins Properties building under construction.
