Phase One of City Hall Project Wraps Up

WALNUT CREEK, CA-After several costly delays, the first phase of the $17.2-million City Hall expansion project, which will double the size of the existing City Hall, is complete.

WALNUT CREEK, CA-Walnut Creek officials say that, despite several delays, the first phase of the $17.2 million City Hall expansion project is complete and employees will begin moving into the three-story expansion next month.

The 37,000-sf City Hall and police headquarters expansion project is attached to the back of the Walnut Creek City Hall, which was built in 1980. The new addition is double the size of the existing facility, which is located at Civic Drive and Broadway.

The city plans to move about 125 employees into the building next month. According to city officials, the project is several months behind schedule. In September 2000, Dennis J. Amoroso Construction was awarded a $13.6 million contract to build the addition and complete the second phase of the project, refurbishing the old City Hall building. The company claimed it would have the job done in 18 months.
