Cleanup of Former Tannery Underway

SHERWOOD, OR-Tualatin-based Pacific III LLC has begun decontaminating the former Frontier Leather tannery property here this week en route to its eventual redevelopment.

In February, Pacific’s managing partner Patrick Lucas signed a “prospective purchaser agreement” with the state Department of Environmental Quality, setting the stage for the sale, cleanup and redevelopment of a contaminated 12-acre piece of the 33-acre property at 1210 N.E. Oregon St.

The PPA defines the cleanup that Pacific will perform on the site and limits Pacific’s future liability to the state in that regard. It also gives Pacific three years to perform the clean up, which is expected to take four months. “We hope to have everything finished before the rains come,” he wrote GlobeSt.com in a recent email.
