Kelly Aviation Center LP, a joint venture between Lockheed Martin Aircraft & Logistics Centers and GE Aircraft Engines, will make F110 fighter engines and overhaul and service them at KellyUSA. The contract for the work comes from GE Aircraft Engines. The center also will provide technical support for the GE F118 engine.
Lockheed and GE, which already had operations at KellyUSA, formed the joint venture in July. The center currently overhauls and maintains aircraft that conduct sea surveillance for the US Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard.
KellyUSA is the former Kelly Air Force Base, situated in San Antonio's south submarket. The facility, operated by the Greater Kelly Development Authority, has 4.4 million sf, about a quarter of which is occupied. The former base's aviation-oriented amenities, including a 11,500-sf runway, appeal to operations such as the Lockheed and GE joint venture.
