The estimated hard construction cost is $13.2 million based on a $60-per-sf range, area construction industry estimators tell GlobeSt.com.
Construction should take eight months, with completion scheduled for second quarter 2003, David Holtz, special projects director for Dade Paper Co., tells GlobeSt.com.
The ground-breaking was planned for spring 2002 with the opening in January 2003. However, the project was delayed several months when Dade Paper changed sites and building permits took longer than expected, Holtz says.
Dade Paper outgrew its current 80,000 sf headquarters at 2323 NW 72 Ave. in Miami. Beacon Station is at the corner of NW 112 Avenue and NW 97 Street in unincorporated Miami-Dade County.
"To provide an enhanced service profile to our customer base, we needed to expand our operational facilities," Holtz tells GlobeSt.com.
Dade Paper president Leonard Genet said previously the new facility will enable the company to expand its inventory to meet customers' growing needs.
The foundation on the new facility was poured this month. In the next two weeks, the company will start to pour the tilt walls.
Architect Rodriguez Pereira is working with Leotta Designers Inc. on space planning and interior design.
Irving Genet founded Dade Paper in 1939 in Miami. The company has grown to 640 employees, six branches from Atlanta to Puerto Rico and more than $175 in annual revenue.
