Codina plans to break ground on the new facility in October. The facility is expected to be completed by November 2003. Codina's fee wasn't disclosed in a prepared statement from the company.

A Sysco Corp. subsidiary, Sysco Food Services of South Florida, will occupy the building, at 11400 N.W. 30th St. Codina says the plant will be the largest refrigerated-freezer distribution center in South Florida.

The company will handle products from air, truck and shipping at the plant which will have 200,000 sf of dry storage, 121,000 sf of cold storage, 106,000 sf of sub-zero freezer storage and 95,000 sf of office.

Publicly traded Sysco, which stands for Systems and Services Co., posted sales of $23.35 billion in 2002. The company's goal is to reach $50 billion in sales by 2008, according to the statement.

Sysco distributes food and related products and services, including fresh and frozen meat, seafood, fruits and vegetables, canned and dry products, paper and disposable products, cleaning supplies, kitchen equipment and medical supplies. The company says it has 400,000 customers.
