PONTIAC, MI-The Wide Track Diner, a 1950 Pullman railroad car converted into a restaurant and living spaces, must be moved from its spot along South Woodward Avenue in Downtown to allow a new development. The diner, long vacant, is blocking a proposal for a $17-million mixed-use development, which would include a $10-million Quality Suites Hotel and Conference Center and various retail, office and loft projects on the 3.1 acre site.

The development is locked in a court battle between the developer, Sandra Rozier, the city and other developers. However, the city still must rid itself of the diner, which sits on the edge of the site.

Bids were taken in an auction for the diner last year, and a buyer was found. But Sheryl Carson says she could not find anyone to move the dining car.
